Brief History
Sometime in the 1930’s, five families of fishermen, landed on the river source and settled in the area for easy access to the fishing grounds. The area become known for its bountiful fish catch, so that more people from neighboring places came and settled. The settlement expanded until a landmark was established by the settlers. This landmark was a rare specie of tree, known as “Barobo,” which was abundant in the site. Subsequently, because of the popularity of the Barobo tree, the settlement came to be known as Barobo.
Geographical Location
It is situated in the central part of the province. Bounded by the municipality of Lianga on the north, by the municipality of Tagbina on the south, by the province of Agusan del Sur on the west, and the Pacific Ocean on the east. It is well linked to Tandag, the provincial capital and can be reached from Butuan city and Davao city through SanFrancisco, Agusan del Sur.
Geographically, Poblacion is bounded on the east by Barangay Dapdap, Barangay Wakat on the north, while on the south is Barangay Dughan and Barangay San Vicente on the west. It is accessible by both water and land transportations. Generally, it is characterized with hilly terrain and bounded with mountains and hills planted with coconut trees.
