Our Advocacy

Doon Po Sa Amin, May Punong Dakila (Barobo Tree: A Story of Life) is the official entry of Barobo National High School to Ano ang kwento Mo? Year-2 under History and Society category. This project advocates the significance of reviving barobohanon cultural heritage. Its collection of videos features Barobo tree (Diplodiscus paniculatus) where the town's name is taken.

"Punong Dakila" which means great tree from the title of this blog implies the significant role of Barobo tree in molding the cultural heritage of Barobohanons. History tells that when the early settlement was developed, the tree served as landmark of the people to locate the area until they later called the place Barobo. The tree was also beneficial to the early settlers because its fruit is edible when cooked. Aside from lumber in building houses, they also used it in making "baroto" or canoe for fishing.

Unfortunately, the development of the settlement from barangay  to a municipality degraded the abundance the endemic tree. Most of the young Barobohanons do not even know about it. There is only one full-grown Barobo tree which is at the BNHS Forest Park.

The bloggers believe that its not yet too late to take action. Everyone has to join this advocacy.
